I was in Victoria yesterday for an exciting Government announcement about plans for a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate for British Columbia. The plans include incentives for hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) and hydrogen (H2) infrastructure.

BC is the second Canadian province to adopt a ZEV mandate

Quebec introduced a ZEV standard early this year, and we're excited to be working with Harnois Énergies to develop a H2 refueling network in that province.

Look to California to understand the impact of ZEV legislation

California's ZEV mandate has supported the market adoption of hydrogen FCEVs. Today, there are 36 H2 stations open, with 28 more in the works and a goal of 200 stations by 2025. These stations support the 5,500 FCEVs currently on the road, a number that goes up weekly. California's vision is 1,000 stations and one million FCEVs by 2030.

BC is planning for 100% of new vehicle sales to be ZEV by 2040

BC's ZEV legislation will rollout next year, with planned ZEV sales targets of 10% by 2025, 30% by 2030, and 100% by 2040. We like the bold targets! Drivers who choose to lease or purchase H2 FCEVs will need places to fill up across beautiful BC; it's our job to make that possible, fueling the drive to hydrogen!
